A crash Saturday morning killed David Gains and sent seven others, including six from the Bootheel, to the hospital. The crash happened on Highway 72, east of Highway F in Madison County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire driven by David Gaines, 27, of Patton crossed the centerline and struck a 2008 GMC Yukon driven by Anna Hillburn, 18, of Kennett head-on.
Gaines passed away because of his injuries hours after the crash and his passenger, 3-year-old Avery Gaines is listed as being in serious condition. Hillburn and five passengers suffered minor injuries.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of David Gaines. It was a tragic accident and the coming times will be very difficult. During the summer months especially, with more cars on the road, roadwork and plenty of distractions, it is important to pay attention and not become distracted. Also, remember the importance of using proper safety equipment like a seat belt.
