Car accident victim identified today - Detroit Free Press

Fraser public safety authorities today identified a 22-year-old city man who died when the vehicle he was riding in was rear-ended by a Detroit man who may have suffered a medical condition while driving.

Ryan Roberts died after the accident about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Dan Kolke said.

Roberts was riding with his twin brother, Drew, when their vehicle was struck from behind by a 67-year-old Detroit man. Kolke did not name the Detroit man, who remains hospitalized, because he may be charged in the accident.

Drew Roberts also was hurt and was hospitalized Sunday. His condition is unknown.

Kolke said the brothers were on their way to watch a movie and stopped at a red light on northbound Hayes at 15 Mile in the left turn lane when their vehicle was hit from behind.

He said the Detroit man was driving faster than two vehicles going 45 mph and that he sideswiped a car on northbound Hayes, north of 14 Mile.

Kolke said the Detroit man had low sugar and had some alcohol in his system, but not high enough to be considered driving while drunk. Kolke said there was no indication of alcohol or drugs with the Roberts' twins, who had to be extricated from their vehicle.

All three men were wearing seat belts, Kolke said.

The accident remains under investigation.
